Several serious diseases are still prevalent in the Central African Republic, and HORUS Impact is committed to fighting them.
Malaria, although on the decline, still affects children in particular. This debilitating disease continues to be the primary reason people are seeking health care consultation. Tuberculosis is the second most common cause of death in the area and HIV infection rates are the highest in the region, though mother-to-child transmission rates have decreased. Hypertension generally goes untreated, as well as several other tropical diseases.
The availability of health personnel is limited and the area faces serious challenges with understaffing for the population ratio. Even those that are trained, are sometimes not found at their posts, primarily due to the fact that they do not receive a regular salary.
Similar to the strategy that HORUS Impact will implement for supporting elementary school teachers, we will contribute to the remuneration of health workers so that they can provide more consistent service to the communities in rural areas. As well as remuneration support we aim to provide additional training as well as increase the rates of health care staff recruitment.
Indicators of project impacts will include:
How many people access a health service within one hour of an emergency situation?
How many people are seen at health service posts/clinics?
How many people who need and access care?
How many health care staff are available?
