Empowering and Building Local Agriculture Cooperatives

Farmer cooperatives can have wide reaching impacts on the coop members as well as the surrounding populations. Benefits of cooperatives for farmers can include collaboration, networking and education, access to equipment, group purchasing and selling, training, capacity building and circular economic activities such as input production.

There are several agricultural cooperatives in the country, however, the majority are primarily small-scale cooperatives that focus on production for local consumption. A few larger cooperatives in the region have been created through partnerships between private individuals and NGOs.

HORUS Impact will establish a robust farmer cooperative in the Pissa area that will provide food for the local population as well as supplying local schools with critical nutrition needs.

HORUS Impact will also support and empower existing cooperatives, and build their capacity and reach by providing agricultural training for cooperative members and others that work in and engage with the cooperatives.

Indicators of project impacts will include:

How many cooperatives have been created?

How many people have been trained?

How many people are working in the cooperatives?
